  1. GNU ZIP v0.6 Atari

  4. This is an experimental port of GNU ZIP v0.6 for the Atari. I have built
  5. two different versions, one for the normal TOS filesystem and one for
  6. MinixFS (or similar). The TOS-version hasn't been tested very much, but it
  7. should at least give people without MinixFS a chance to test GZIP out.
  8. However, I can't guarantee that it'll work. When GZIP comes closer to a
  9. full version (lots of different options and functions are still missing)
  10. I might consider trying a bit harder to make it TOS-friendly (if it isn't
  11. already :-). It also hasn't been tested under plain TOS, so if it for some
  12. reason doesn't work for you then please try it with MiNT installed. When
  13. I haven't got MiNT installed I loose my MinixFS (64 meg out of 85) and with
  14. that most of the utilities and programs that I use. Therefore running my
  15. Atari without MiNT isn't very easy (nor funny). And since I'm a lazy bastard
  16. I didn't care to try GZIP without MiNT installed, sorry! Bug reports and
  17. comments concerning the Atari-port are always welcomed (see addresses
  18. below). For further information about the author and where to send bug
  19. reports/comments concerning the actual program (non-Atari specific code
  20. that is) please have a look in the README file.

  22. This version of GZIP was compiled with GCC v2.3.1 PL1 and MiNTlibs PL25.
  23. For information on the different compile-options used please see the
  24. simple makefile (Makefile.st) that I included.

  26. If you want to build your own copy of GZIP then grab the source
  27. (gzip-0.6.tar.Z) from your local gnu-ftp-site, or if they haven't got
  28. it, from prep.ai.mit.edu. Along with the complete source follows a couple
  29. of shell-scripts and some more documentation (f.e. about the algorithms
  30. used) that probably is of great use to anyone interested in GZIP and its
  31. future. The reason for not including more from the source-distribution
  32. is that I thought the size was the most important thing since anyone
  33. can DL the source, but not everyone have the resources to compile it.
